The government of Cameroon has announced the official launch of registrations for the Agritech Innovation Challenge (AIC). Registrations are being conducted on the platform of the Cameroon Digital Transformation Acceleration Project (Patnuc), funded by the World Bank, and will end on August 20, 2024.

According to its promoters, the Agritech Innovation Challenge is “a competition aimed at stimulating the agricultural and pastoral sector by promoting, including digitally, and using digital agricultural solutions among actors in the Cameroonian agricultural and pastoral sector.” At the end of the competition, 10 Cameroonian startups will be awarded. Each winner could receive up to 40 million FCFA (USD$66,000) and support from Patnuc in implementing their respective business plans.

Pre-selections in respect of the agritech challenge in Cameroon will take place between August and September 2024 and will include “pitches” where selected candidates will have a limited time to present their innovations. Demonstrations will showcase how these innovations work in practice. Debate conferences will also allow producers and beneficiaries to learn more about PATNUC. The northern regions will hold their pre-selections in Garoua, while the East, Centre, and South regions will meet in Ébolowa. The Littoral and South-West regions will conduct their pre-selections in Limbe, and the West and North-West regions will hold theirs in Bafoussam. These regional activities will culminate in a shortlist of 20 startups, which will then compete in the grand national final in Yaoundé in September 2024.
