InstaDeep, a Tunisia-founded player in artificial intelligence (AI) and deep learning, has announced the launch of its latest supercomputer, Kyber, which represents a significant leap in the company’s computational capabilities. This multi-million-pound investment has increased InstaDeep’s compute power by a factor of ten, positioning Kyber among the top 100 most powerful AI clusters globally and ranking within the top 20 for NVIDIA H100 GPU clusters.

With an impressive ~0.5 exaFLOPs of compute power in FP16, Kyber is nearing exascale performance levels, a milestone that underscores InstaDeep’s commitment to scalable AI infrastructure capable of meeting future demands. The supercomputer will play a pivotal role in advancing research across various domains, including industrial optimisation and life sciences.

Located at the Equinix data centre in Saint-Denis, just outside Paris, Kyber exemplifies InstaDeep’s strategic focus on France as a vital market for AI innovation. The company’s Paris office, which houses over 130 AI engineers and researchers, is integral to its mission of contributing to the French AI ecosystem and fostering collaboration with local talent, research institutions, and educational bodies.

Karim Beguir, CEO and co-founder of InstaDeep, stated, “Kyber is a transformative leap forward for InstaDeep. By integrating cutting-edge NVIDIA H100 GPUs with our expertise in high-performance computing (HPC) and our proprietary Aichor ML ops software, we now possess the capacity to accelerate AI breakthroughs and deliver innovative products to our clients.”

This investment not only strengthens InstaDeep’s technological foundation but also highlights France’s strategic importance to the company. Beguir emphasised, “Hosting Kyber in a French data centre reflects our commitment to fostering AI innovation and growth in Europe.”

Kyber is fully managed in-house, reinforcing InstaDeep’s dedication to maintaining independence in accessing essential computing power for AI workflows. Nacef Labidi, Head of Infrastructure at InstaDeep, explained, “From the outset, InstaDeep made the strategic decision to build and manage its own supercomputing cluster alongside cloud partnerships. This approach, bolstered by our HPC expertise, ensures our autonomy in accessing critical computing resources. Owning and optimising our hardware allows us to tailor software specifically to our needs, driving efficiency and reducing computing costs.”

As InstaDeep continues to push the boundaries of AI research and development, the launch of Kyber signifies a robust commitment to innovation, particularly within France and the broader European landscape. The supercomputer is expected to enhance InstaDeep’s ability to deliver impactful AI solutions across a variety of industries, paving the way for the next generation of AI-driven advancements.
