In a strategic push to enhance Egypt’s standing as a global digital services provider, Deloitte inaugurated a $30 million Innovation Hub in Cairo. The new facility, the first of its kind globally for the firm, was launched by Amr Talaat, Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology, alongside key executives from Deloitte and Egypt’s Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA). The Egyptian hub is a substantial investment by Deloitte aimed at exporting high-value technology solutions and nurturing local digital talent for global markets.
The Innovation Hub was established to create a steady stream of technology professionals in fields like artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data analytics, and cloud services. It aims to employ and develop thousands of Egyptian specialists, with a target to increase its current workforce of 350 to 5,000 in the coming years. Speaking at the opening ceremony, Talaat emphasized the Egyptian government’s focus on digital transformation and its investment in fostering a skilled workforce to fuel the country’s expanding IT sector.
“This hub reflects global companies’ confidence in Egypt’s ability to support innovation and provide high-quality digital services,” Talaat stated. “Egypt’s young and skilled talent pool in emerging digital fields has positioned it as an attractive investment destination.” With Egypt’s digital exports reaching an estimated $6.2 billion in 2023, the state is positioning itself as a digital powerhouse within the global outsourcing landscape.
Founded over 175 years ago, Deloitte is renowned for its comprehensive suite of services, from auditing and tax advisory to financial and risk consulting. The Cairo Innovation Hub will bolster Deloitte’s network of global innovation centres by serving clients across Europe and the Middle East with advanced technology solutions. Richard Houston, CEO of Deloitte North and South Europe, Moataz Al-Dajani, CEO of Deloitte Middle East, and Hany Girgis, the Deloitte partner responsible for the new hub, were among the key figures in attendance.
The Cairo hub will cater to a diverse set of industries, providing specialized services in AI, data analytics, enterprise resource planning, and more. This strategic expansion is intended to meet the growing demand for digitally-enabled services and help Egyptian professionals gain international exposure and experience. Hany Girgis noted, “Our investment in Egypt is a testament to our confidence in the country’s talent base, which can deliver top-tier professional services across international markets.”
Positioning Egypt as a Leading Digital Services Exporter
The Innovation Hub is also aligned with Egypt’s broader ambitions to become a leading exporter of digital services. Ahmed El Zaher, CEO of ITIDA, expressed his optimism about the impact the hub will have on Egypt’s digital economy and employment landscape. “The Deloitte Innovation Hub will create new opportunities for Egyptian youth, strengthening Egypt’s position on the global outsourcing map,” El Zaher stated. He emphasized that the facility will foster an environment that supports innovation, driving Egypt’s capacity to meet the demands of global markets.
Deloitte’s commitment to developing local talent aligns with Egypt’s focus on cultivating a digital ecosystem that supports young professionals across emerging tech fields, including computer science, engineering, and business information systems. Through initiatives such as the Innovation Hub, Deloitte hopes to bridge skill gaps and nurture the next generation of digital leaders in Egypt.
Deloitte has previously highlighted the role of innovation hubs as vital catalysts for economic development. These centres create collaborative environments where businesses can build capabilities, foster enterprise, and stimulate regional innovation. By connecting Egyptian professionals with cutting-edge digital tools and global projects, the Cairo Innovation Hub is set to contribute to Egypt’s long-term economic development and help secure its role as a key player in the global digital economy.
The Innovation Hub’s long-term plans include expanding its service offerings to accommodate the evolving needs of international clients, further enhancing Egypt’s profile as a destination for technology and professional services outsourcing. Through partnerships with local organizations and universities, the hub also aims to facilitate skill-building programs and professional training, thus ensuring a pipeline of qualified talent.
As Deloitte strengthens its foothold in the Egyptian market, the Innovation Hub stands as both a commitment to Egypt’s growth and a step towards meeting the rising demand for digital transformation services worldwide.
