In a bid to foster a vibrant startup ecosystem and diversify its economy, Algeria is sending 90 startups on a global technology pilgrimage to China, South Korea, and the United States. The ambitious program, announced by the Ministry of the Knowledge Economy, Startups, and Micro-enterprises, aims to expose Algerian entrepreneurs to the world’s leading tech hubs and accelerate the country’s digital transformation.

This latest cohort of startups joins a growing number of Algerian businesses that have benefited from the government’s initiative to connect local entrepreneurs with global tech giants and renowned universities. By immersing themselves in these dynamic ecosystems, Algerian startups are expected to acquire cutting-edge skills, forge valuable partnerships, and return home equipped to drive innovation and economic growth.

Yacine Oualid, Minister of the Knowledge Economy, emphasized the program’s strategic objectives, stating, “These trips aim to enable Algerian startups to acquire knowledge and expertise from leading universities and technology companies, thereby strengthening their creative capacities and contributing to the promotion of entrepreneurship in Algeria, particularly in high-value-added sectors.”

The program is part of a broader government strategy to cultivate a startup culture in Algeria and position the country as a regional technology hub. By providing Algerian entrepreneurs with access to global networks and resources, the government hopes to stimulate innovation, create jobs, and reduce the country’s reliance on hydrocarbons.

Algeria Venture, a public startup accelerator, has played a pivotal role in supporting the program. The organization provides a range of services to startups, including mentorship, funding, and market access. According to the minister, Algeria Venture has been instrumental in helping Algerian startups scale up and compete on the global stage.

As Algeria continues to invest in its digital future, the success of this program will be closely watched by policymakers and entrepreneurs alike.
