    The Norrsken Accelerator 2024 has revealed its new cohort of startups, selected from a highly competitive pool of over 3,000 applicants worldwide. Among these innovative ventures, Nigeria’s StartButton has emerged as the only African startup to secure a coveted spot in the program.

    Norrsken Accelerator, renowned for its rigorous selection process, focuses on identifying and supporting startups that leverage technology to solve significant societal and environmental challenges. The program, taking place at Norrsken House in Stockholm from July to September 2024, promises an intensive eight-week sprint designed to propel these startups towards scalable growth and heightened impact.

    StartButton: Pioneering Digital Commerce in Africa

    StartButton, co-founded by Mallick, Bolakale, and Kelechi Oti, is a trailblazer in the African digital commerce landscape. The startup empowers businesses to sell their products and services across multiple African countries by streamlining payment processes and eliminating operational overheads. Acting as the merchant of record, StartButton handles the complexities of cross-border transactions, allowing businesses to focus on expanding their reach and enhancing productivity.

    The inclusion of StartButton in the Norrsken Accelerator highlights the growing recognition of Africa’s burgeoning tech ecosystem. As the only African representative, StartButton exemplifies the continent’s potential to innovate and address unique market challenges through technology.

    The Norrsken Accelerator 2024 Cohort

    The 2024 cohort features a diverse array of startups from around the globe, each selected for their potential to make a significant impact in their respective fields. Notable participants include:

    • BeChained (Spain): Aiming to revolutionize energy efficiency in manufacturing, BeChained’s SaaS solution reduces energy costs and carbon offset expenses. Their AI technology optimizes manufacturing processes by learning from real-time data, leading to a 19% increase in energy efficiency.
    • DREV (Sweden): Innovators in industrial cleanliness, DREV develops cutting-edge cleaning equipment that eliminates the need for water and harsh chemicals. Their technology transforms waste into valuable resources, enhancing material recovery and promoting a closed-loop system in advanced manufacturing facilities.
    • Nobody Engineering (Finland): Focused on reducing the carbon footprint of the EU’s building stock, Nobody Engineering combines software robotics and IoT to optimize building automation. Their solutions can save up to 30% of a building’s energy consumption through active control of heating and ventilation systems.
    • Net Zero Build (Sweden): Specializing in green building certifications, Net Zero Build offers an AI-powered project management tool that streamlines the certification process. Their solution addresses administrative challenges, enhancing productivity and reducing costs for real estate companies.

    The Accelerator Program

    Selected startups will benefit from an initial investment of $125,000 and gain access to 24/7 workspace at Norrsken House. The program features tailor-made support, including one-on-one sessions with mentors and experts, aimed at scaling the startups’ impact and business operations. The accelerator culminates in Norrsken Investor Day, where participants pitch to hundreds of investors, potential partners, and clients.

    Emphasizing Impact and Scalability

    Norrsken Accelerator places a strong emphasis on intentional impact and scalability. Startups in the program are chosen not just for their innovative solutions but also for their potential to grow and amplify their positive impact as they scale. The accelerator supports early-stage companies that have identified clear market opportunities and are in the process of building or have already built a minimum viable product (MVP).
