Busbud, a global leader in ground travel booking, has announced the acquisition of Ratality, a South African software company renowned for its revenue management optimization tools. This strategic move is set to transform the ground travel industry by integrating Ratality’s advanced technology into Busbud’s Business Suite, a comprehensive platform designed for ground travel operators.

The acquisition builds upon a successful existing partnership between the two companies and further solidifies Busbud’s presence in Africa. Ratality’s expertise in revenue management, including dynamic pricing, demand forecasting, and fleet management, will be seamlessly integrated into Busbud’s existing suite of services. This will provide ground travel operators with a powerful, all-in-one solution to optimize their operations and maximize profitability.

Busbud has raised $49.2M over 8 rounds. Busbud’s latest funding round was a Unattributed VC for on November 9, 2022. Busbud’s valuation in January 2018 was $55.87M.

A Proven Track Record of Success

Ratality’s revenue management system has already demonstrated its effectiveness, with one South African operator reporting significant improvements within just a few months of implementation. The operator saw a 73% increase in passengers, a 76% improvement in seat occupancy, a 37% increase in revenue, and a 32% increase in revenue per kilometer. These results highlight the potential impact of Ratality’s technology on the wider ground travel industry.

Key Benefits for Ground Travel Operators

BusBud is an online bus ticketing platform that facilitates the search, comparison, and booking of bus tickets for travel in any country. With BusBud, users can explore bus tickets and routes worldwide, compare offerings from various bus companies, and book tickets online through a secure payment system. Founded in 2011 by LP Maurice (CEO), Michael Gradek (CTO), and Frederic Thouin (CPO), BusBud benefits from the extensive experience of its co-founders and Board of Directors in high-growth companies.

By integrating Ratality ’s technology, Busbud ’s Business Suite will offer ground travel operators a range of benefits, including:

    • Advanced Demand Forecasting: Accurate predictions of passenger demand enable operators to optimize pricing and scheduling, ensuring maximum efficiency and profitability.
    • Dynamic Pricing: Real-time adjustments to ticket prices based on demand and other factors can significantly increase revenue.
    • Fleet and Driver Management: Efficient management of vehicles and personnel can reduce costs and improve service quality.
    • Enhanced Booking Experience: Dynamic pricing and improved forecasting can lead to lower prices for early bookings, enhancing the overall customer experience.

Busbud’s Business Suite already provides a comprehensive range of services for ground travel operators, including inventory management, a white-label e-commerce platform, and access to a global network of marketplaces. The addition of Ratality’s revenue management system further strengthens the suite, making it one of the most comprehensive solutions available for the ground travel industry.

“This acquisition is a key step in our mission to provide ground travel operators with the tools they need to succeed in the digital age,” said LP Maurice, CEO and Co-founder of Busbud. “By combining Busbud’s global reach and Ratality’s cutting-edge technology, we are creating a powerful platform that will drive innovation and growth in the ground travel industry.”

“Uniting with Busbud expands the reach of our platform to bus operators around the world,” said Arend de Waal, CEO & Co-founder of Ratality. “Our innovative revenue management solutions generate immediate ROI for our partners and have already been proven in other travel sectors like airlines. Overall, this combination unlocks untapped potential for bus operators, maximizing revenue and operational efficiency.”

    1. Manage their operations: This includes things like scheduling routes, managing seat availability, and handling ticketing.
    2. Optimize revenue: Ratality’s software uses advanced techniques like demand forecasting and dynamic pricing to help companies maximize their profits.
