Zuri, a tech-enabled beauty company founded in 2016, has announced a significant investment from Renew Capital, an Africa-focused impact investment firm. This investment will fuel Zuri’s expansion across Africa and Europe, bolster its market leadership, and support its mission to redefine beauty standards and empower women across the continent.

Zuri has distinguished itself in the booming African beauty industry through a unique business model that integrates physical hair salons, an e-commerce platform, and social media channels. This multi-pronged approach allows the company to distribute its high-end, African-designed beauty products and services to a broad consumer base, both within Africa and among the African diaspora in Europe.

“Zuri’s objective is to empower women, from all over the world, to become the best version of themselves,” said Gisela Van Houcke, founder and CEO of Zuri. “We have made it easy for our customers to access high-quality beauty products and services through all of our touchpoints. We are thrilled to welcome Renew Capital aboard as we look ahead to the next phase of Zuri’s expansion journey.”

Zuri’s proprietary platform seamlessly integrates its e-commerce app and physical salons, providing customers with a tailored experience from home to salon. This innovative approach has caught the attention of Renew Capital.

“Zuri’s innovative approach, particularly their integration of technology to disrupt the beauty space, is truly exciting,” said Adam Abate, Renew Capital’s principal of investment management. “Their growth trajectory is very promising, and we’re thrilled to join forces with them on this journey.”

With this new investment, Zuri is well-positioned to solidify its position as a leader in the African beauty industry. The company’s commitment to celebrating diversity, empowering women, and making beauty accessible to all has resonated strongly with consumers, and this investment will enable Zuri to expand its reach and impact even further.

Renew Capital is an Africa-focused impact investment firm that backs innovative companies with high-growth potential. Renew Capital manages investments on behalf of the Renew Capital Angels, a global network of angel investors, foundations, and family offices who seek financial returns and sustainable social impact.

Zuri, founded in 2016 by Gisela Van Houcke, has evolved from selling hair extensions and beauty products from her father’s car in Kinshasa to becoming a pan-African tech-driven powerhouse with manufacturing and distribution capabilities. The company now boasts over 20,000 loyal customers, a team of 60 passionate employees, more than 500,000 engaged social media followers, and a multi-million dollar revenue stream.

Zuri offers a wide range of products and services designed to help women feel confident and beautiful in their own skin.
